Elevated Fragrance. Family-Crafted.

Long before Hillhouse Naturals became a home fragrance company, there was a farm, a family, and a house on a hill.

In 1986, my parents, Peggy and Shelly, were farming in Wickliffe, Kentucky. They raised cattle and grew tobacco, corn, and soybeans. My mother worked right alongside my father — even driving the tractors and doing the same demanding farm work the men did.

They knew how to work hard, make the most of what they had, and figure things out as they went.

Those qualities would become the foundation of Hillhouse Naturals.

It Started With a House on a Hill

The story behind our name is simple: our original family home sat on a hill.

Around that home and farm, my parents began growing everlasting flowers. Eventually, we had more than 15 acres of them.

Those flowers became some of our first Hillhouse products. Mom created potpourri, wreaths, and garlands by hand, and we traveled to craft shows to sell them.

I knew those flower fields well because I picked flowers every day after school. I also traveled with Mom to shows, long before I realized Hillhouse would eventually become such an important part of my own life.

Built With a Farmer's Way of Thinking

Hillhouse grew from my mother's creativity and my father's ingenuity.

Dad approached the business like a farmer: if he didn't know how to do something, he figured it out.

When we began making candles, Shelly worked through the science of the process, including how the vessels needed to be warmed before we poured the wax. When new equipment arrived, he figured out how the labeling machines worked.

And as the business grew, my parents divided and conquered. If Mom needed to take Hillhouse to one show, Dad would pack up and head to another.

They were a team.

The same ingenuity, determination, and hard work that made them successful farmers became part of Hillhouse.

In many ways, Hillhouse wasn't simply started on our family farm. It was built with a farmer's way of thinking.

The Next Generation

After I graduated from high school, I officially joined Hillhouse.

Over the years, our family business continued to evolve. The potpourri, wreaths, and garlands of our early days eventually led us further into home fragrance — candles, reed diffusers, linen and room sprays, bath and body, and home care.

But one important part never changed.

Our products are still poured, filled, and packaged by hand.

There are real people behind what we make, and we still believe the details matter. When the Hillhouse name goes on something, we want to be proud of it.

A Moment We'll Never Forget

We've experienced many special moments over the past four decades, but one we'll always remember happened in 2018.

Our Cut Grass and Peony Blush handwoven bamboo candles were featured in O, The Oprah Magazine.

For a family business that began with flowers grown on a farm in Wickliffe, Kentucky, it was one of those moments when we stopped and thought about just how far Hillhouse had come.

But perhaps what makes me proudest isn't a particular feature or milestone.

It's that we're still here.

Forty Years Later

In 2026, Hillhouse Naturals celebrates 40 years in business.

And my mom, Peggy?

She's now ??( she won't let me share that number) years old and still comes to work every day.

The same woman who drove tractors, grew acres of flowers, made those first Hillhouse products, and traveled to craft shows is still part of Hillhouse today.

And I'm still fortunate enough to work alongside her.

Hillhouse may be known today as a mother-and-daughter company, but its roots belong to our whole family.

My mother's creativity gave Hillhouse its heart. My father's ingenuity helped us figure out how to make it work. Together, Peggy and Shelly built the foundation I've been privileged to help carry forward.
